Tour 4 - Outside of Rio
This tour is not really one tour but a suggestion of what can be done outside of Rio. A car with driver is mandatory for this tour...
To spend the day outside of the city there are several options:
- Buzios, about two hours east of Rio: A very famous holiday destination for Cariocas and tourists alike. Quite crowded on weekends, quieter on weekdays. Nice beaches, good restaurants, lots of local crafts stores.
-Petropolis: to the north of Rio, in the mountains, something very different and good especially on very hot days :)
-Parati: Originally a fishing village, this city is lined with a lot of old houses and cobblestone streets. It has become a bit touristy but has retained itīs charme. Boat tours are offered.
-Ilha grande: The "Big Island" is still very unspoilt, lots of beautiful beaches, turquoise waters, a great place to relax. It takes about two hours by car, then another hour by boat to get there, so you would need to start the day early to do this for a one-day tour. Itīs definitely worth it though!
