Holger and Andreia started their plan of building the pousada in early 2003.
At first Andreia had always wanted to build a hostel in the North East of Brazil, somewhere on the beach - until we spent a longer time with her family and friends in the Favela Pereira da Silva in Rio de Janeiro!
The decision was easy: Never before had someone built a real hotel in a favela and never before had any hotel with a better view been built in Rio ;)

We had good luck and found a nice compound to buy. However, since the whole building is built on a hill, the architects had to work out a very good plan to contruct this building - but they succeeded as well!

ANDREIA DA SILVA MARTINS was born in Curitiba in the South of Brasil and grew up on the countryside in the state of Parana. As a teenager she moved to Rio de Janeiro and later she moved to Berlin, Germany, for 7 years, before she returned to Rio to administrate the pousada.
HOLGER ZIMMERMANN was born and still lives in Berlin, Germany, although he travels quite often to stay at the Pousada Favelinha as well...
